Peter Jackson had a playful side when it came to interacting with the actors on set. While the actors enjoyed the perks of being pampered with makeup, food, and special treatment, Jackson would occasionally create uncomfortable situations to keep them grounded. He felt it was important for actors to experience discomfort to avoid becoming “misguided” or “misbalanced.” One example of this was during The Hobbit, when the dwarf actors were wrapped in spider cocoons in Mirkwood. Jackson’s intention was to remind them that it wasn’t all about comfort and luxury. Despite the discomfort, the actors were able to find humor and camaraderie in these situations, which helped boost their morale.
