Nirmala Sitharaman has recovered ₹20,000 crore from Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, but Vijay Mallya is not at all happy about it.
In 2016, Vijay Mallya fled to the UK because his company, Kingfisher Airlines, was accused of scams worth crores of rupees.
Nirav Modi is also wanted in a ₹12,000 crore fraud case.
He is currently in a private prison in London.
Apart from these two, Nirmala Sitharaman also mentioned Mehul Choksi, who is currently residing in Antigua and Barbuda.
Nirmala Sitharaman revealed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized assets worth ₹20,000 crore belonging to these three individuals.
Banks alone have recovered ₹14,000 crore from Vijay Mallya.
However, Vijay Mallya stated that his debt was ₹6,203 crore, and the ED has recovered double the amount from him.
Despite this, Vijay Mallya continues to be labeled an economic offender.
Vijay Mallya now wants the ED to explain why they recovered double the amount of his debt.
